I meant to write this post nearly
a month ago but I was extremely busy so I couldn’t. Sorry guys, but you know
what they say, better late than never. Before I continue with this post, I just
wanted to say that it will be a long and informative one fill with pictures. If
you can’t be bothered reading then a simple solution would be to close this
window or just skim through and look at the pictures.
So on the 10th of September this year, I got invited by one of my good friend Chermaine (who’s also a blogger) to attend Lush first ever bloggers event held in Melbourne.
Chermaine is an amazing blogger,
she started way before I did and she had given me numerous great advices about
blogging. Check her blog out by clicking on the link below;
These foods were made by talented asylum
seekers who are trained to become professional chefs. The food tasted
incredible.
We had a good half an hour to nibble on the yummy
foods and to socialise with other Melbournian bloggers before we got a welcome
introduction by Lush’s PR team members.
We got to hear about the company and its mission
statements. We also had a better understanding on how Lush is operated, what
the company believes in as well as the activities they are involved in to
improve our environment and human rights.
As you may know, Lush doesn’t test any of their
products on animals. What I’m especially impressed with this company is that it
goes an extra mile to ensure all their ingredients they purchased from the
manufactures are not tested on animals. There a few companies out there who
claim that they don’t test their products on animals. However, not many of us
know that the places where they buy their raw materials have already been tested
on animals.
Saving the planet by protecting the environment is
extremely crucial in the Lush organisation. For example, they use almond and
olive oil rather than mineral oil and ensure that majority of their raw
materials are natural and reduce the amount of synthetic usage where possible. There
are a few products where you have of a choice of going completely naked (e.g.
soaps and bath bombs). By doing so, less packaging materials will be wasted.
“naked” soaps
A cool idea Lush had come up with is using scarves
(made from recycled materials of course) to wrap the products up. This idea was
inspired by the Japanese art known as Furoshiki. This art involves in giving a
gift wrapped up in a scarf and the lucky recipient can re-use that scarf. One
of the PR girls said if you love the scarf too much, you can tell the recipient
that it’s traditional to take the scarf back *hehe*.
Example of various designed scarves
Products where packaging is essential, Lush uses
recycled materials. They also have a reward system where if you bring back 5 empty
full size black pots, you will get a nice fresh face mask. These black pots
will then be recycled or re-used as art material. For more information on their
Environment policy, just click the link below:
After learning how Lush was developed, there were
different working stations being set up where the bloggers get to interact with
the Lush staff. Chermaine and I didn’t get to participate all the stations due
to time restriction however, we still had a really good time.
Firstly we got to see (and participate) how Angels
on bare skin cleanser is made. It looked easy to make and very effective on
cleansing the skin. We got to bring them home to try J
We then headed over where we get to play the Emotional Brilliance game.
What you do is closed your eyes as the Lush staff spin the colour
wheel. You then open your eyes and pick 3 colours that appeal to you most. Your
first choice represent you strength or weakness. The second choice is what your subconscious need. Your third choice is you talent. It’s the talent you need to
achieve your subconscious need.
This is what I got:
1. Ambition
(I think it’s sometimes my strength and sometimes my weakness)
2. Power (interesting…)
3. Dynamic
(usually, a dynamic person is confident, energetic and Independent. For me, I
like to consider myself to be independent and sometime energetic. I’m not
extremely confident but enough to not be too shy)
The next work station we went to was skin care
where we get a skin consultation.
I love how they used dry ice and poured
water to make the smoky effect. Reminded me of my uni days where I used liquid
nitrogen in the lab which gives the same effect.
You can play the game online, click the link below:
I have oily and acne prone skin and the lovely Lush
staff suggested me the following products:
Cleanser – Herbalism. It’s a green paste which contains ingredients such as
clay, ground almonds, rosemary, nettle and chamomile. The cleanser helps to
purify and exfoliate the skin as well as making the skin smoother.
Toner – Tea Tree water. Tea tree is
a natural anti-septic which helps kills bacteria and soothes the blemish areas.
Moisturiser – Vanishing cream. It’s
a “low fat” moisturiser because it contains minimal oils. It’s nice and light
which doesn’t block the pores.
The last station we participated in was the body
skin care.
The four steps you should do during your shower
experience using Lush products:
1. Polish
– Turkish Delight is a body
polish filled with jasmine and Turkish roses. Apparently 20,000 rose petals are
used in a batch.
2. Exfoliate – Rub Rub Rub contains sea salt which exfoliate the skin. It smells
amazing.
3. Conditioner
– Ro’s Argan Body conditioner contains abundant of emollients which helps
soften and smooth the skin and humectants which lock the moisture so the skin
stay hydrated. Argan oil is rich with vitamin E which moisturises the skin
nicely.
4. Dusting Powder – Silky underwear. After you dry your body, you add this dusting
powder and you skin feels like silk. I’m planning to buy this soon. It just
makes you feel so luxurious and sexy.
Those were all the work stations time allowed us to
participate. I had such a fun experiences and got to meet amazing people. I
will definitely try more Lush products in the near future.
Lush was incredibly generous and gave us numerous
full size products to try and we also got to pick 3 products as well. Below is
the link to my Lush haul;
